WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
As a Director of Finance, you will have an array of responsibilities:
Strategic:
- Contribute to the organization’s strategic goal setting process, development of priorities and objectives, and development of operational plans that tie to strategic goals.
- Establish and monitor investment strategies and policies in accordance with objectives set by the finance committee
Financial Operations:
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger; prepare monthly financial summary, balance sheets, profit and loss statement; prepare general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly tax returns
- Manage the annual audit and prepare work papers
Treasury:
- Manage the organization’s bank accounts, loan servicing, escrow, deposit and reconciliation processes; accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, mortgage pledging, mortgage sales and new market tax credit transactions
- Review documents for accuracy
Financial analysis:
- Analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses; analyze/prepare cash forecasts
- Prepare annual fiscal year budget
- Prepare annual escrow analysis and related correspondence to habitat homeowners
Compliance:
- Ensure financial compliance with the organization’s commitment related to financial gifts, grants, loans, and other contractual obligations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws related to the organization’s financial management
Cost control
- Maintain accurate records of purchase and sales orders related to inventories
- Manage fixed asset tracking system
Leadership/management:
- Maintain accurate records work collaboratively with the management team and staff to maintain a positive, supportive and mission focused work culture
- Provide leadership to the finance department, ensuring operations are consistent with mission and strategy of the organization and that staff receive appropriate development opportunities
Internal and external representation:
- Staff liaison to the finance, risk management and committees
- Develop strong, positive, and lasting relationships with staff and volunteers throughout the organization
- Manage relationships with accounting firm and banks
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 7-10 years accounting experience
- CPA preferred
- Nonprofit experience
- Nonprofit regulations knowledge preferred
- Proven ability to create budgets and break down complex data
- Strong understanding of fiscal policy
- Experience analyzing trends to reduce financial risks associated with making investment and spending decisions
- Ability to manage finance and accounting functions & supervise professionals
- Strong comfort level with technology
